Where you Live as a Volunteer

You will sleep in a container home in the yard, possibly shared with another volunteer. The containers each have a window, A/C, two twin beds and storage space. The containers are all connected to a shared living area with bathroom, living room and kitchen that containes fridge, stove and has everything to prepare your meals. There’s a washing machine in the bathroom. In the front yard there is a house with living room, bathroom and kitchen that is mainly for the workers and guests/adopters but you can use it too when needed. There are also dogs with disabilities living there who can’t stay in the enclosures and have access to the house.
At the end of the day you can enjoy a peacefull time because the staff team will be gone until the morning so volunteers have the garden and house for themselves 🙂

No prior experience is required for most tasks. However, experience is helpful for enrichment activities like training. Most things can be learned on site, as long as you’re motivated and willing to help.
If you love animals, nature, and community, you’ll find your place at Farmica.

Caring for our dogs is time-consuming and often unpredictable. Daily routines depend on the season, weather, and the dogs’ needs.
Most days: 8:00 am – 1:00 pm, sometimes followed by a quick extra water check and poop-scooping round in the afternoon. Most of the  afternoons are usually free.
Summer: Work is split into two shifts (early morning and late afternoon) due to the heat.
Winter: 9:00 am – 2:00 pm, sometimes followed by a quick extra water check and poop-scooping round in the afternoon. Most of the  afternoons are usually free.
Occasionally, we may ask for help with ad-hoc tasks after hours, such as vet visits, picking up new dogs, giving medication, or handling emergencies.

You’ll be staying in a space shared between three and six volunteers most of the year, surrounded by many dogs and animals. It can be busy, noisy, and sometimes messy—but also incredibly rewarding. Flexibility, patience, and a love for animals are essential.
