Branimir through the eyes of his volunteer friend, Nikki:
He's such a good dog. It took me a while to notice him in the kennels, as he's with other pretty extroverted dogs. What made me notice him is that he is the only one that can and will jump on top of the freezer and so will often go there to look around or bark when energy gets high during feeding or other moments.
When energy is low, he kind of always sits there like a gentleman. He doesn't jump up on you as much as his kennel mates so I think his lower level of excitement and athleticism is what I noticed.
So I pretty randomly decided to take him out on a walk and he is amazing on leash. He mostly doesn't pull and sometimes will check if you're still there. He is not reactive at all and while he will look at dogs, cats or chickens, he does not go after them and will just walk on after a second of staring. He responded pretty well to dođi while on leash, or he just wanted to get close to me.
He loves to have his head near you, and if you stop petting him he will push his head under your arms or in your hands and it's the cutest thing ever. He knows how to relax though it takes him a while. So if you take a rest during a walk or a hike he will eventually probably lie down near you, sometimes putting his head on your arm.
He is also receptive to learning commands. I taught him sit and lie down in English and then changed to the Croatian commands and he caught up really quickly. So now he knows sjediti and lezi, though he'll probably start forgetting soon 😅 I even got him to do paw (in English) quite well, though we were still working on it.
We took him and Špiro to the national park and they got along just fine in the back of the small car with Pau in between them. They kind of just acknowledged each other's existence but that was pretty much it, which is great.

Branimir's volunteer friend has since moved on, and he's waiting for the person who won’t. He’s just one of many overlooked black dogs in an overcrowded shelter, and we know the odds aren’t kind to dogs like him — but anyone who chooses him will gain a truly special companion who gives his whole heart to the person he loves.
